about
Speaking on the song's conception, I wanted to create a slow build of a song off the back of a simple repetition I came up with. I loved the idea of the song creating more drama with each repetition — a simple concept with what I hope is a much larger result.
This particular song I remember experimenting with my old DL-4 pedal and the loop/reverse function. I wanted some kind of rhythmic element for the song, so I scraped the top of my guitar and recorded that into it. I then found if I reversed and slowed it down, it created this eerie kind of ball and chain type sound that I found quite fitting for the song — that’s the real low end rhythmic part you can hear throughout the track. I would then build the template of the track around where I felt energy was needed and where I felt to drop it off. This concept really came to life when i booked Violinist Monique Irik & Cellist Freya Schack - Arnott for some string work on another song, they came and knocked it out so quickly that we had time to explore other songs, such as this one, once we begun piecing some ideas around it, i knew we had something special here and a form was gelled for the entire album.
