about
Following up recent LP Boy which saw Mittere cementing his place as one of the most eclectic and sonically robust ambient composers and producers coming out of Australia, the talented composer shares a new single ‘Storm Lines’. Alongside this cinematic new single, Mittere announces a new 6 track album entitled Variations On A Theme Vol. 1. (set for independent release December 15th).
The prolific artist saw an outburst of support on recent album Boy from Mixdown, Music Feeds, Life Without Andy, 2SER, Fbi Radio and more, which is a testament to Dan Frizza’s uniqueness and talented songwriting approach. On new single ‘Storm Lines’, the composer enters further into the world of “film music” with nods to legends including Brian Eno as well as electronic pop / post rock pioneers M83 as well. All in all, the new single ‘Storm Lines’ is an evolution of the rich cinematic, ambient world that he built on Boy with a more refined, dramatic and post rock landing pad.
The just announced new album ‘Variations On A Theme Vol 1’, contains 6 tracks that build on the emotive, lush ambient world that Mittere explored on Boy. Building off of the meditative, transcendental tones that he is known for, ‘Variations On A Theme Vol 1’ is an album that Dan hopes the listener can “do Yoga, meditate or study to”. He wanted to create a contemplative, dramatic listening experience that takes you on an explorative sonic journey filled with many synthesisers, lush string arrangements and beautifully ethereal vocal melodies.
Mittere speaks of the new album; “The concept of this album kind of started with the idea to create more atmospheric bodies of work. It all started with a simple synth idea. This particular song I remember experimenting with my old DL-4 pedal and the loop/reverse function. I wanted some kind of rhythmic element for the song, so I scraped the top of my guitar and recorded that into it. I then found if I reversed and slowed it down, it created this eerie kind of ball and chain type sound that I found quite fitting for the song — that’s the real low end rhythmic part you can hear throughout the track. I would then build the template of the track around where I felt energy was needed and where I felt to drop it off. This concept really came to life when i booked Violinist Monique Irik & Cellist Freya Schack - Arnott for some string work on another song, they came and knocked it out so quickly that we had time to explore other songs, such as this one, once we begun piecing some ideas around it, i knew we had something special here and a form was gelled for the entire album.”
